Welcome to the Snap Backup download page.  Snap Backup is The One-Click Backup Utility for safeguarding your important computer files.  Snap Backup is free and runs on just about any computer -- Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, Unix, and Windows.

Follow the steps below to install Snap Backup on your computer.

Install Instructions -- Version 4.4

Mac OS X Users
Jump straight to step 2.  Apple builds Java right into Mac OS X (10.3 and later).

Ubuntu Linux Users
See the special install instructions for Ubuntu.

1) Get Java

Download and install the latest version of Java from Sun by clicking on the button below.

Note: If you already have Java (release 1.4.2 or later) installed on your computer, you do not need to install Java again (but it won't hurt).

2) Download Snap Backup Install File

From the tables below, download the install file appropriate for your computer and follow the instructions provided.

Mac OS X
SnapBackupInstaller-v4.4.pkg.zip (137KB)
Updated: June 13 2006
Clicking the download link should automatically launch the installer.  Once the installation is complete, drag the "Snap Backup" icon from the "Applications" folder to the "Dock" for easy access.  Then you can safely delete the installer file (.pkg) that's on your Desktop.

Windows 98/Me/NT/XP/Vista
SnapBackupInstaller-v4.4.exe (153KB)
Updated: June 13 2006
Save the install file to a location such as your "Desktop" and then double-click the file to start the installation.
Note: Some browsers will let you run the install file directly from this web site, which means you don't even have to save a copy of the install file.

Generic Executable JAR File (All Java Platforms)
snapbackup.jar (136KB)
ReadMe.txt     Optional Icon File (small)
Updated: June 13 2006
First, save the JAR file and ReadMe file to a convenient location, such as "/Applications/SnapBackup". Then run the JAR file. On some systems with Java installed you can just double click the JAR file and Snap Backup will automatically run. On other systems, you may need to enter the following command:
java -jar snapbackup.jar
Consult your Java documentation for the exact steps to launch an executable JAR on your system.  Note: In some browsers you many need to use "Save Link As..." when downloading JAR and text files.
